Students Making Adult Choices oKay!
SMACK is about youth saying “yes!” to bestowing a holy kiss (hence the smacking sound) of love on people in need in our community through service. This is an adult choice not because all adults make it but because it is the mature choice, the choice of a grown-up follower of Christ.
SMACK not only gives the youth an opportunity to serve God by serving others, but each April they ask people to sponsor them for an eight hour work day to raise money for Hope’s annual trip to Mexico to build a house for a family in Tijuana. In this way they make another adult choice: taking responsibility for their goals.
“Then the King will say, "I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it for me.’” Matthew 25:40 (The Message)

Did you know you can get an Iced Hazelnut Latte at Hope on Sunday mornings? You can even get a Watermelon Italian Soda or a Peppermint Mocha! With fourteen flavors to choose from, you can sip a fine drink and support the youth program all at the same time. Hope’s high school youth run this ministry along with Deb Sloan to provide everyone at Hope with the opportunity to excite their taste buds. Plus, all donations are used by the youth for their activities. Let our baristas set you up with a delicious drink at the west end of the fellowship hall by the church library and the soda machine. By the way, the soda machine also raises funds for the youth program (although at the moment it is out of order).
Youth! If you would like to take part in this ministry you must be in high school to serve behind the bar but responsible youth of any age can act as waiters. Contact Chuck Roberts for more information.

Information Packet #1
In June of 2009, six teens and five adults went on a nine day trip to build an 11x22 foot home for the Talavera family in Tijuana Mexico through Amor Ministries. Though we drove two days there and sweated four days building it, that house would not have been possible without the willing support, both financially and in prayer, of the people of Hope and the community of Eagle. We were fully paid for our labors by the gratitude shown by and the friendships made with Karen and Elvia. Now let me express my gratitude to everyone who helped make this mission possible. As Christians we believe this mission was made possible by God and was done for God. There is a lot of joy in being part of God's purpose and I hope you too feel that joy for the part you played in building this house.
We want to think of this trip as more of a pilgrimage than a mission. A mission is about goals; getting that house built no matter what or bringing Christ to those who don't know him. That is not the case with the Christian families we serve. A pilgrimage is about anticipation: where and how will I encounter God, what great act will I see God perform, how will I be able to participate in God's work through imitating His selfless love, or what is it like to totally dedicate my time to God? The pilgrimage is universal to all faiths; it is an expression of the natural human urge to visit places made holy by some event there. So we return year after year because these families have been set apart (made holy) in our hearts forever.
